Thinking of Lamorinda Real Estate – Think Wine.
There really is no need to travel to Napa for vistas such as the one I captured at sunset in a secluded spot in the Napa Valley while visiting our friends and clients who sold their home in Lafayette and moved to Napa — realizing their dream of owning an inn. Within our domain of Lamorinda real estate, its now possible to enjoy the beauty of vineyard land, fine wines, and all of the other wonderful qualities that compel so many of us to own homes in Lafayette, Orinda or Moraga.
Lamorinda Wine Growers President and Lafayette real estate owner, Leslie Ward, was kind enough to send me an email to remind me of the wonderful vineyard properties, and dedicated wine makers that we are so fortunate to have locally. In fact, the Lamorinda Wine Growers site is an excellent source of information about our local wine industry and effort to establish the designated Lamorinda real estate boundary as its own AVA (American Viticulture Areas) — the equivalent of an “Appellation”. Don’t miss taking a look at their site where you can even find photos of the wine labels for many of the wines from our local producers.
Founded in 2005 — just nine short years ago, the Lamorinda Wine Growers Association had just 14 members. Today, the Association has grown at a phenomenal pace to 85 members with approximately 125 vineyards planted or planned for the proposed Lamorinda AVA region. This map shows the boundaries of Lamorinda real estate that comprise the proposed Lamorinda AVA.
The wineries and vineyard owners here in Lamorinda generally don’t have regular tasting room hours, but some have special events for their wine club members and/or welcome the help of friends and fans of their wines during the harvest season. Susan and I can often be found up at our friends Dave and Diane Rey’s home — owners of Reliez Valley Vineyards — sorting grapes during the harvest.
During the fall harvest season, you’ll find us sitting on the side of Reliez Valley Road — in the heart of Lafayette CA real estate — sporting the sign, “Will Work for Wine” ! For those of you who prefer to buy your wine, most of our Lamorinda wines are available at local wine retailers and restaurants.
