With so many restaurants in Lafayette CA and the surrounding communities, it was with great surprise and delight that we stumbled upon The Hideout Kitchen and Cafe this week.
Quietly opened in Lafayette about 8 months ago, The Hideout is aptly named. Literally hidden off of Mt. Diablo Blvd, it is not visible from the street, nor is their signage that is visible after dark. You have to know that it exists to find it, adding to the mystique and charm of the restaurant!! Located just east of Lafayette’s central downtown area, it is within walking distance to The Trails Neighborhood, as well as several of the new condo projects located on Mt. Diablo Blvd.
We dined with another couple, and we all felt that the food was nothing short of SUPERB! We began the evening with kale salads, brussel sprouts, and flat bread. All were wonderful, but our brussel sprout “experts” said that the preparation was the BEST that they had ever tasted!!! Our entre’ selections included the lamb chops, blackened salmon, and short rib stew… again, nothing but accolades for quality, flavors and portion size. We concluded the evening by sharing an apple crisp and the unique and wonderful s’mores.
The restaurant and staff are warm and welcoming. Our service was excellent! The quality and diversity of the menu and preparations is as good or better than the finest restaurants in the area — prices are set fairly, encouraging you to come back often.
As we walked out, we all looked at each other and decided that The Hideout Kitchen and Cafe’ is our new “favorite” local spot to dine. With so many restaurants in Lafayette CA to choose from, as well as within the greater Walnut Creek area, The Hideout won’t disappoint!
