ORINDA CA City Guide and Video | Team Rothenberg

Lying just west of Lafayette and nestled up against east side of the Berkeley Hills, you’ll find the charming town of Orinda, CA. Just 20-25 minutes from downtown San Francisco, Orinda has two distinctive areas of commerce, often referred to as the “Theater Square” area, and “The Village”. Theater Square is built around the historical old Orinda Theater and is comprised of small boutique retail stores, restaurants, and commercial office space. Along Moraga Way, which passes in front of the theater, numerous shops, restaurants, coffee houses and retail stores that attract a steady stream of Orinda residents for shopping and dining. On the north side of Highway 24, Orinda Village runs along the outskirts of the prestigious Orinda Country Club with its quaint “village” feel and an array of restaurants, abundant shopping, a community park and city center, including the beautiful Orinda library.

Orinda’s residential communities can be found tucked away in the many picturesque valleys and hillsides that embrace the Orinda countryside on both the north and south sides of Highway 24. These include the expansive Orinda Country Club community that broadly radiates from the country club itself, and is characterized by a multitude of distinctive homes built within the lush hills and valleys of this area. Just beyond the immediate country club area is the whimsically named area of Sleepy Hollow with its story book street names and beautiful homes. Just a bit further east, equidistant to central Orinda and downtown Lafayette, is The Orinda Downs. Also known as “The Downs”, it is comprised of generally newer construction than many of the other areas of Orinda, and has the feel of an East Coast or Midwest neighborhood tucked in a valley surrounded by lush hills.

Within 5-10 minute’s drive from Orinda via the Caldecott Tunnel, residents can also quickly reach the quaint shopping and dining area of Oakland’s Rockridge District. Lafayette’s downtown area is a mere 5 minutes from Orinda, and the expansive Walnut Creek center of commerce and downtown dining is only 10 minutes away.
